The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, has added another feather to his cap as he emerges the newly elected President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF). His victory marks another milestone in a distinguished career defined by service, innovation, and commitment to national development.

The election, held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the Gymnasium Hall, Package B, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, was supervised by the National Sports Commission. It attracted widespread praise from athletes and sports administrators across the country, who hailed the outcome as a positive and strategic step for Nigerian sports.

Before venturing into wrestling administration, CGC Adeniyi had already made his mark in the nation’s sporting ecosystem. Under his leadership, the Nigeria Customs Service Sports Unit evolved into one of the country’s most formidable sports institutions producing national champions, Olympians, and inspiring role models across various disciplines.

In his acceptance speech, Adeniyi commended the ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s sports sector and expressed optimism about their long-term impact.

“I’m beginning to see the dividends of the reforms that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is putting into the sports sector, putting the right people in place, the right processes, and the right systems to drive the electoral process. I am quite satisfied, and I feel this is an environment where I can work and thrive,” he said.

He further pledged to align the Federation’s vision with national sports reforms, emphasizing structure, transparency, integrity, and athlete development as key priorities for his administration.

Stakeholders in the wrestling community have expressed confidence that Adeniyi’s leadership will usher in a new era of professionalism, accountability, and innovation. Many believe his proven track record in organizational reform and inclusive leadership will energize the Federation and strengthen Nigeria’s standing in international wrestling.

As the new NWF President, Adeniyi’s appointment symbolizes not only a win for the wrestling community but also for the broader vision of sports development in Nigeria anchored on excellence, collaboration, and national progress.
